Intro

The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections) have been ranking for years among the group of museums, in which research is intensively conducted and for which international scientific exchange is eminent. The great variety of diverse research projects, which are embedded in the museum's structure or in which employees of the museum are involved in, reflect the diversity and profoundness of our scientific activities.

Previous x-ray examinations indicated that a picture of a naked Cupid in the painting had been overpainted. Today, new laboratory tests have conclusively determined that the overpainting was not by Vermeer’s hand.
